14 projects in State for Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax ferry service: Centre

Projects undertaken across several routes as water transport and economical and eco-friendly mode of transport

PANJIM: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has stated that there are 14 infrastructure projects in Goa for Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service under the Sagarmala Programme. 

The Union Ministry further added that one such project has been completed in the coastal State of Goa while the remaining 13 are under development. 

This information was given by Minister Shantanu Thakur in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Monday. 

He added that such projects are being undertaken across several routes as water transport and economical and eco-friendly mode of transport. 

He added that based on the outcome of techno economic feasibility and Detailed Projects Reports (DPRs) prepared for National Waterways (NWs), 23 NWs have been found to be viable for cargo and passenger movement and two NWs have been found to be viable for tourism purpose. 

“Development of these NWs and integrating them with the coastal routes will enhance the economic development of the country,” he added.
