MARGAO: A group of salesmen attached to a hospitality brand operating in Goa were intercepted by Colva businessmen and later handed over to police for allegedly enticing tourists into scratch and win offers by taking them away from the beach.
The Colva water sports, taxi, hotel and restaurant owners complained that the tourists are being enticed into an offer of free gifts and are being cheated.
The locals have demanded that such activities be stopped.
Around 14 men from other states were caught by the Colva locals and handed over to the police for allegedly enticing several tourists into scratch and win offers by taking them away from Colva beach. The locals claimed and have proved on video footage that the offers of scratch and win pamphlets, are farce and gimmick to cheat the tourists.
Colva Sarpanch Menino and locals found these men distributing pamphlets to the tourists by tempting them to opt for the offers.
The sarpanch said, “The local businessmen have invested crores of rupees in their business and these farce activities are affecting their overall business at the Colva beach.”
“We have informed and complained to the police in the past regarding these issues, but little has been done by the police to keep these troublemakers at bay,” Menino added.
