VASCO: Three Mormugao councillors met the joint Mamlatdar of Mormugao Saish Naik on the issue of deletion of names from the electoral roll of Mormugao constituency. Councillors alleged that the deletion of names from the electoral roll is being done on political line which is unjust.
On Wednesday morning, Councillors Nilesh Navelkar, Bhavna Bhosle, Shradda Amonkar (wife of Sankalp Amonkar) met joint Mamlatdar Naik and raised objection to the deletion of around 1400 names from the electoral list which they felt that has happened on the political line.
The councillors also urged mamlatdar to keep the process on hold or give an extension of seven days time for people who are residing in various places in Goa to respond to their notices. Councillors also appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to enquire who had prepared the list of voters who we’re to be deleted and what was the motto behind the move.
Later speaking to media, Councillor Navelkar said, “We were shocked that 1400 names have been put up for deletion. People living for years together have been issued notice of deletion from electoral roll with a time frame of two days and though the notice has been issued, the people have not received the notices yet and this has created more complications.”
Shradda Amonkar said that people are unaware that the list prepared for deletion of names has been put up on the walls of schools.
“We requested the Mamlatdar to give an extension of at least 7 days for people to appear for hearing. This is an issue of an important document of a voting card and there must not be any haste or done under pressure of politicians,” he said.
Amonkar also alleged that the BLOs are working under pressure and have not contacted local councillors in this regards.
