BICHOLIM: Around 142 workers from a chemical factory at Bicholim Industrial Estate have been retrenched while another 93 workers have been given transfer orders.
According to the available information, the chemical company on June 22 had submitted an application for its closer and on Friday the company closed down the operation without intimating the workers.
“Some three days back they pasted a notice of three days paid holiday and on Friday when we came here we were in for a rude shock that the company has closed down,” a worker informed.
On Friday, the workers came at the gate of the company and insisted that they would not move away till the company settles their remuneration or compensates them.
“Some of us are working here since last more than 15 years but on Friday suddenly we were told that the company has closed down. In all, 93 workers were shifted to other unit while 142 workers were retrenched,” the worker said.
