PANJIM: As many 1,47,998 vehicles in the State are fitted with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) since the process started in October 2019.

The tender for fitting HSRP for all vehicles purchased before April 2019 was awarded to the Delhi-based Real Mazon Private Limited and the work was to be completed by October this year. But due to current COVID-19 pandemic the deadline for the installation of HSRP for vehicles is likely to be extended, according to Assistant Director of Transport (Head Office) Francisco Vaz.
During the last 20 months from October 2019 to May 2021, the highest 31,863 high security registration plates were fitted for the vehicles ion at the Arlem-Margao centre followed by 20,346 at the Vasco centre; 19,261 at Ponda centre; 17,371 at Porvorim centre; 16,336 at Mapusa centre; 12,191 at Bicholim centre; 10,046 at Quepem centre; 8,704 at Canacona centre; 7,448 at Pernem centre and 4,431 at Dharbandora centre.
As per the date available, the first five months witnessed heavy rush for installation of HSRP and it dropped from April last year following 21-day nationwide lockdown to tackle the spread of Coronavirus and subsequently fitting operations were suspended after some of the workers working at some of the fitting centre tested positive for COVID-19 infection.
In the first month only, highest 25,702 HSRP were fitted while, in November 2019, a total of 15,710 HSRP were fitted while 16,494 and 17,584 HSRP were fitted in December 2019 and January 2020. Similarly, 14,521 and 10,114 HSRP were fitted in February and March last year respectively.
In April last year, only 11 vehicles were fitted HSRP at Arlem-Margao centre while, 9 and 8 HSRP were fitted for vehicles at Mapusa and Vasco centre respectively. Similar, was the case in May this year, where less than 100 vehicles were fitted with HSRP, expect 358 HSRP fitted for vehicles at Arlem-Margao centre.
