PANJIM: Between 15 to 50 million tonnes of ore is lying at jetties, docks and other places in the state, Goa Foundation’s Claude Alvares said Monday, adding that his guess is that all of it is illegal. Alvares however added”But we cannot say. The Supreme Court will decide,’ he said.
The final figure will, however, be finalized by the a three-member committee including Dr U V Singh who was instrumental in cracking the Bellary mining scam.
During the October 31st hearing, the attorney general had informed the court that there were 11.56 million tonnes of ore lying in the State. The present affidavit however told the court that the amount had gone up to 15.46 million tones and 1.22 million tonnes of ore had been found without disclosure of the same in monthly or annual returns.
