VASCO: The chicken vendors on Thursday confronted the NGO Niz Goenkar Fauz (NGF) and Water Resources Department officials while conducting an inspection of illegal borewells of chicken market, here, on Thursday.
The WRD to issue show cause notice to Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) over the 15 illegal borewell connections to the chicken shops.
During the inspection, it was revealed that these chicken shops had no permission, licence from the WRD for individual borewell. There were no permissions taken from the Food and Drugs Administration by these outlets and as per the law no open slaughtering is allowed.
It was also observed that the water being used by these outlets is at close proximity to the waste dumping area which could lead to various diseases.
It was learnt that a report will be sent to the MMC so that it provides water, which in turn could generate revenue, for the municipality.
During the inspection, one lady from the chicken shop confronted a member of Niz Goenkar Fauz along with a journalist who was present along with the WRD officials, questioning the reasons for the inspection.
Later, when contacted NGF member Suresh Naik informed that during the inspection the WRD officials found out those total 15 illegal connections of borewells to these chicken shops.
Naik said, “The WRD Director will issue show cause notice to Mormugao Municipal Council over 15 illegal borewell connections to the chicken shops.”
