Ramp at Tar bridge reconstructed
PANJIM: The ramp near the Tar bridge, in front of Milagres Church is the only site where the Ganesh idols from the entire area of Mapusa, including Khorlim, Dattawadi, Housing Board are brought for immersion. This ramp collapsed about 20 days prior to Ganesh Chaturthi, while the work of de-silting the river was in progress. The area comes under the jurisdiction of the Bastora Village Panchayat in the constituency of Aldona and taking cognisance of the matter, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo along with Sarpanch of Bastora and other members inspected the damaged site and instructed Executive Engineer Pramod Badami of WRD Dept to initiate the work to repair the ramp. The work was undertaken on a war footing and the ramp was completed in all respects within 18 days at an estimated cost of Rs 14 lakh.
Reality show begins from Goa
PANJIM: Indian Model Hunt Pvt Ltd presents Hindustan Ke Sitare, a reality show which will give a dais to young and aspiring actors and models between the age group of 14 to 35 years.
The show will be judged actor Govinda along with another three judges and will be telecast nationally from April 2014 onwards.

Silk expo begins in Panjim
PANJIM: Sarthak Silk Handloom Welfare Society is organizing silk and cotton fair exhibition cum sale at Clube Nacional, M G Road, Panjim from September 13 to 29 from 10 am to 8.30 pm. Wedding saris, silk and cotton wear, traditional ethnic handloom fabrics, kurtis, dress materials, bags and jewellery are on sale. There are more than 25 stalls with products from 30 different places across the country including material in tussar and moonga silk Banarasi sarees, Jaipuri kurtis, kheecha silks, tissue nets and Pashmina, hand printed dupattas, Lucknowi, Manipuri silks, Bishnupuri silks, chiffons, Bengali style dahkai jamdanis, Maheshwari silks muslins, crepes and georgettes.
Jewellery from Jaipur and Rajasthan is also on sale along with leather bags.
Merces Ganesh festival programme
PANJIM: The all Goa Bal Kalakar Bajani contest, sponsored by Hemant Dinanath Golatkar will be held on September 15 at 7 pm at Shree Sateri Mandap, Peribhat Merces. On Sept 16, the Saptavir programme will be held at 8 pm, sponsored by Aameer Pundalik Palyekar. On Sept 17, the all Goa solo record dance sponsored by Devanand Arjun Naik will be held at 7 pm. On Sept 18, Satyanarayan pooja will be held at 10 am followed by mahaprasad sponsored by Ramakant Shanbag. Meritorious student of Merces will be given scholarships and financial assistance will be accorded to another 15 students. CALANGUTE: The all Goa Ghumat Arti competition will be held at Candolim market on September 15 at 8 pm, while the all Goa fancy dress & solo dance competition will be held at Shree Shantadurga Devasthan, Candolim, from 8 pm on September 16.
Congress meet at Curchorem
CALANGUTE: AICC Secretary and Goa observer Dr Chella Kumar will attend the meeting convened by Curchorem Block of Congress at Richa hall, Morailem-Curchorem on September 15 at 5 pm.

Medical camp at Merces
PANJIM: The Merces Sanskrutik Trust has organised a free medical camp on the occasion of 23rd Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav at Shree Sateri Mandap, Peribhat Merces from 9 am to noon on September 15. Doctors will consult on general medicine and surgery, pediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, orthopaedic, skin and bone mineral density checking for osteoporosis, and diabetes check.
Vocation week begins today
CALANGUTE: The Vocation Week will be celebrated in the archdiocese from September 15 to September 22. Vocation Sunday is an annual event in the Archdiocese, where seminarians from Rachol, Duler (Mapusa) and Saligao Seminary visit various parishes to share about their vocation and to organize various programme for the altar servers, youth and Catechism children.
The Vocation Commission for the Diocesan Clergy (VCDC) has been promoting the vocation for priesthood and this year, VCDC will organise the Deanery Vocation Sunday in Ponda Deanery on September 15.
