PORVORIM: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl from Assnora was allegedly gang-raped by five youth after she was drugged at a house in the village around 20 days ago. All five youth have been arrested in this connection.
Mapusa police said the girl’s mother filed a complaint stating that the incident took place when one youth called her daughter to his residence, on the pretext that his mother wanted to speak with her.
The girl went to the boy’s residence and noticed four other boys already in the house. The girl claimed that one of the boys locked the door and she was then forced to consume some liquid. The girl fell unconscious after drinking the liquid.
The girl returned to her senses and realised that she had been raped. The boys later threatened her with dire consequences if the matter was reported to the mother of the prime accused, police said.
However, the other boys began pressuring the victim to visit their homes as well and the girl then reported the matter to her mother on Monday night.
The mother immediately lodged a police complaint and police arrested all five accused on Tuesday.
Confirming that all five accused had been arrested in the connection, a police official said the victim and the five accused were sent for a medical examination at GMC on Tuesday evening.
“The nature of the sexual assault on the victim will only be ascertained by medical tests, which will be made available on Wednesday,” the official added.
The five accused will be produced before the Mapusa JMFC on Wednesday. Mapusa Police have registered a case of rape against the five youth and is investigating the case.
Incidentally, the matter was reported a day prior to the government’s statement that 45 cases of crimes against women were registered between January and February alone.
While Goa Police registered a total 62 cases of crimes against women between January and February, 11 cases in 2012, three cases in 2011, two cases in 2010 and one case prior to 2010 were also registered during these two months.
