PANJIM: After scrutiny, total of 16 candidates are left in fray for the upcoming byelections to the three Zilla Panchayat (ZP) constituencies scheduled on October 16.
The highest number of eight candidates are in Davorlim ZP constituency followed by four candidates each in Cortalim and Reis Magos Constituency.
Congress has fielded candidates in all three ZP constituencies while the BJP and AAP are in two constituencies each.
The withdrawals of nominations, if any, will take place on Saturday.
In Reis Magos, Congress has fielded Pragati Pednekar, while BJP has nominated Sandeep Bandodkar and two other independent candidates — Rajesh Dabholkar and Sainath Korgankar.
In Davorlim, the ruling BJP has fielded Paresh Naik against Congress’ Leoncio Fernandes Raikar and AAP’s Siddhesh Bhagat. There are five independent candidates — Andrew Rebello, Bhagwan Redkar, Jose Agnelo Dias, Murtuza Kuknoor and Pooja Naik.
In Cortalim, while BJP is learnt to have extended its support to independent candidate Marciana Vaz, wife of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, Congress has fielded Valent Barbosa and AAP has nominated John D’Sa. Independent Lesley Gama is also in the fray.
