16 curfew violations, 730 mask-less persons booked in two days

PANJIM: Sixteen cases of State-wide curfew violation were reported on the first two days of its enforcement since May 9. Incidentally South Goa district did not report a single violation. As per the police details, a total of 730 mask-less persons have been booked in Goa Police’s ongoing drive on May 9 and May 10. The department has collected Rs 1.46 lakh as fine amount from these violators. 

Details shared by Goa Police Public Relations Officers (PRO) SP Mahesh Gaonkar states that the violators are booked for contravening the curfew order. 

On May 9 and May 10, each day Calangute police registered one case. Three cases reported at Panjim PS, two at Porvorim PS, two a Valpoi PS, four at Bicholim PS, one at Old Goa PS and three at Mapusa PS. No violation was reported in South Goa. Despite an alarming rate of COVID-19 cases in Goa, adherence to wearing of face masks in public continues to be a major problem in Goa. 

On May 9, 222 persons and 145 persons without masks were fined in the North and South Goa respectively whereas 216 persons and 147 persons were booked on May 10, from North and South Goa respectively.
