Dionisio heads Curtorim carnival panel
PANJIM: Dionisio Sardinha, Panch, Village Panchayat Curtorim was elected as the President of Curtorim Carnival Committee for the year 2014-15, at a meeting held on February 12. The other office bearers are Vivek da Veiga- Vice President, Wilson Luis- Gen Secretary, Terancio Fernandes-Treasurer, Simon Barreto-Organising Secretary. This is the eighth year the Committee is organising the Carnival floats along with drawing, singing and dancing competitions.
Presentation Convent win quiz
PANJIM: Presentation Convent High School, Margao, won the first prize at the inter-school religion quiz organised by Our Lady of Succour High School, Nagoa, Salcete on behalf of Works of Mercy Charity Trust founded by late Fr Bruno A Diniz. Our Lady of Succour High School, Nagoa bagged the second prize. while Blessed Joseph Vaz High School and Holy Spirit Institute, Margao won the third and fourth prizes. Fr Marcelino Rodrigues was the quiz master. The prize winners were given cash prizes and a rolling shield.
Judge Bernadette honoured at Siolim
PANJIM: The first Indian American judge from Goa in the United States of America,
Bernadette D’Souza, was honoured by her Alma Mater ~ Holy Cross High School, Siolim, on Thursday at a function held at the school hall. Bernadette, who was accompanied by her neurologist husband Terrence, was felicitated by Sr Caroline Fernandes, Provincial of the Pune province of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, in the presence of Headmistress Sr Julie Rodrigues, superior Sr Bromadine, staff, students, members of the PTA and ex-students.
Addressing the gathering, Bernadette, who passed her SSCE in 1972, recounted her days at her school and boarding, and the time she was the captain of the Red House. She also narrated her inspiring life’s story. She also remembered the then superior Mother Loretta and her headmistress Sr Blandina D’Souza.
Teacher Cecilia Tavares welcomed, while headmistress Sr Julie proposed a vote of thanks.

Eye camp held at Bicholim
PANJIM: Manipal Hospitals in association with Saraswat Bank, Bicholim, held a free ophthalmic camp at Dr Walke’s Clinic at Bicholim on February 6. The Branch Manager of Saraswat Bank Bicholim Anuradha Deshpande along with prominent personalities from Bicholim and Dr Kaushik Dhume, consultant ophthalmologist and Jones Samuel of Manipal Hospital were present. Around 80 patients attended the eye camp.
Lenten sharing at Pilar
PANJIM: The Pilar Theological College will conduct a Lenten special biblical sharing on ‘The Passion and Death of Jesus Christ’ for five consecutive Sundays from 9.30 am to 1 pm from February 16 to March 16 at Pilar Seminary hall.
The sessions will deal with five scenes of the Passion story ~ The Last Supper (Feb 16), the Garden of Olive or Gethsemane (Feb 23), Jesus before the Sanhedrin (March 2), The Trial of Jesus before Pilate (March 9) and the Golgotha-Crucifixion of Jesus (March 16). Repeat exam forms available
PANJIM: FY/SY BCom/BCA/BBS students who have not cleared their semesters are informed that repeat examination forms are available in the office of Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao. The last date of submission is February 24 between 9 am to 11 am. A detailed notice is put up on the college notice board.
Health talk given at ICG
PANJIM: Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with International Centre Goa (ICG), held a health education talk at the ICG, Dona Paula recently. A presentation on cervical spine pathologies and treatments was delivered by Dr Amey S Parab Consultant Neurosurgeon at Manipal Hospitals and included degenerative disease of the spine, cervical spondylosis, degenerative disc disease, degenerative disease: facet joints, degenerative diseases, artificial disc, etc. The talk was followed by a question answer session.

Bicholim temple anniversary held
MAYEM: The ninth anniversary of Sateri Devasthan, Lamgao-Bicholim, was celebrated with religious fervour and rituals like Jodvi Prahwalan, Namsmaran, folk dances like fugdi and bhajans. Later, the programme ended with aarti and tirthprasad.
Narvem road asphalted
MAYEM: Deputy Speaker Anant Shet recently inaugurated the asphalting work of the road from Kankadevi Temple to main road at Pilgao. The estimate of the work is Rs 1.85 crore and villagers had been demanding the asphalting work of the road for the last several years. Speaking on the occasion, Shet said Narvem area is a famous tourist spot and as such roads in the area should be smooth. Narvem Sarpanch Pratishtha Mishal, Aaditi Tuyekar, Govind Gawade, assistant engineer Ganpat Siddhayae, Madhu Shetgaonkar, Gurudas Parsekar, Jayanti Naik, Bharat Padelkar and Prakash Narvekar were present on the occasion.
Bhatagram Mahotsav at Bicholim
MAYEM: Bicholim Bachao Abhiyaan (BBA) in association with department Art and Culture will organise Bhatagram Mahotsav Bicholim at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj maidan, Bicholim, on February 19 and 20.
According to BBA President Naresh Sawal, the Governor, Bharat Vir Wanchoo will inaugurate the programme on February 19 at 6 pm in the presence of Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh and Bicholim Municipal Council Chairperson Anisha Vernekar.
Shivjayanti will also be organised before the inaugural function and there will also be a felicitation programme.
A drama ‘Janta Raja’ will be staged by Sai Mahila Mandal Bicholim, followed by musical programme.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Labour Welfare Minister Avertano Furtado, MLAs Rohan Khaunte, Benjamin Silva and Michael Lobo and BMC Deputy Chairperson Narayan Betkikar will be present.

Air Costa orders 50 E-Jets E2s
PANJIM: Embraer S A has signed a definitive agreement with India’s Air Costa for a firm order for 50 E-Jets E2s with an additional 50 purchase rights. The acquisition is a mix of 25 E190-E2s and 25 E195-E2s and has an estimated value of USD 2.94 billion based on 2014 list prices. The purchase rights are for an additional 25 E190-E2s and 25 E195-E2s, bringing the total potential order to 100 aircraft and can reach USD 5.88 billion if all are exercised. This transaction raises the total E-Jets E2 orders to 200 firm and 200 options/purchase rights since the launch of the E2 programme in June 2013.
Air Costa has become the first customer of E-Jet E2s in the Indian market and will take delivery of the E190-E2, in 2018. The E195-E2 is scheduled to enter service in 2019. At present, the airline flies four E-Jets: two E170s and two E190s. Air Costa is based out of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
Air Costa currently connects cities in southern India such as Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Vijayawada, as well as key secondary cities in the North and Northwest of the country.
