16 in fray for May 7 Goa LS polls

PANJIM: In all 16 candidates, eight each in North Goa and South Goa Parliamentary constituency, remained in fray for the May 7 polls in the State.

The North Goa candidates are Shripad Naik (BJP), Adv Ramakant Khalap (Congress), Tukaram Parab (RGP), Milan Vaingankar (BSP), Sakharam Naik (Akhil Bhartiya Parivar Party) and three independents Thomas Augustine Fernandes, Adv Vishal Naik and Shakeel Jamal Shaikh.  

Similarly, Pallavi Dempo (BJP), Captain Viriato Fernandes (Congress), Rupert Pereira (RGP), Dr Sweta Gaonkar (BSP), Harishchandra Naik (Corruption Abolition Party) and three independents Alexy Fernandes, Dr Kalidas Vaigankar and Deepkumar Mapari are in the fray.  

No candidates withdrew their nomination papers on Monday, the last date for withdrawal of nominations.  

Both the District Magistrates who are the returning officers allotted symbols to independents.

The process of filing nomination papers for two Parliamentary constituencies of the third phase of Lok Sabha polls started on April 12 and continued till April 19. The scrutiny of nominations was held on April 20. Also all nomination papers were found valid by the returning officers.
