VASCO: A Vasco bus owner was arrested on Saturday on charges of assaulting his bus conductor on Friday evening.

According to Vasco police, Ashok Kumar Pillai (34) of Alto Dabolim filed a complaint accusing his employer, Javeed alais Babu Shaik, of assaulting him with a metal pipe, following a dispute over ticket collection at the Vasco KTC bus stand at about 8.40 pm on Friday. Vasco police has arrested Javeed under Section 324 of IPC and PSI Gaurish Parab is further investigating the case. 

PONDA: A woman has accused her husband and her in-laws of subjecting her to cruelty and harassment over dowry related demands.

In her complaint to Ponda police, the woman stated that her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law, all residents of Gogol-Margao, had demanded money with her parents, besides subjecting her to cruelty and harassment from April 26, 2012 till November 11. Acting on the complaint, police has arrested the accused under Section 498-A IPC and PSI Mahesh Gaude is investigating the case.

PANJIM: Panasonic, has launched their automatic range of cookers warmers, jar cookers and mixer grinders in Goa. Special requirements like the demanding kitchens of Goa have been kept in mind. The new range of kitchen appliances was launched by Hidenori Aso, MD, Panasonic Appliances India Company Limited (PAICL) along with Thomas Nicholas (Asst GM-Karnataka, Kerala and Goa) and Ganpat M Bishnoi (authorized distributor for Goa).

Aso stated, “Automatic range of kitchen appliances are being launched in Goa keeping in mind that Goans are very health conscious people and various Goan dishes can be prepared using the automatic range of cookers and mixer grinders.”

The outstanding feature of the automatic cooker is when the food is cooked it switches off automatically and can cook Indian, Chinese, European and other dishes. Automatic Cooker models are available in capacity ranging from 1.5 L to 12 L. Bowl mixers, hand mixers, oven toasters, and pop up toasters, coffee maker, meat mincers, and juicers & food processors are also available from Panasonic.

PONDA: In what could be a property-related dispute issue, a man has accused his son of setting their house on fire at Kuncolim-Mardol on Saturday afternoon.

In a complaint to Ponda police, Anand Jalmi has claimed that his son, Keshav, deliberately set the house on fire, causing a loss of about Rs 10 lakh. Fire brigade officials confirmed having received a call in the afternoon and that they had rushed to the spot within minutes.

Ponda police informed that the house has been gutted in the fire. Ponda police has registered the case and are investigating the case.

PANJIM: An 82-year-old man from Canca in Bardez died after he was stung by bees near his residence on Saturday.

According to reports, the incident took place as Dhondu L Parcekar had set fire to a beehive on a tree near his house. The bees stung him and he fell on the ground.

Family members later noticed him lying unconscious on the ground and rushed him to the Mapusa District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

PANJIM: Damodar Mangalji Charitable Religious Trust and Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera held an eye camp for the detection of cataract patients where 11 availed of super specialised free cataract surgeries. The health check-ups such as ECG and blood checks were done at Campal Clinic and the operations for the 11 patients were performed on November 9, by Dr Chandrakant and Dr Madhavi Goankar of My Eye Hospital, Nuvem. These cataract operations were super specialized surgeries conducted by Topical Phacoemulsification with foldable IOL Implant. Each patient underwent detailed pre-operation evaluation to decide on the fitness before the operation. Earlier an eye camp for the detection of cataract patients was held at Aldona, where nearly 200 patients were checked. 27 people were detected for cataract of which 17 had bilateral cataract. 

MARGAO:  The Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum (NCCF) will have its monthly general meeting of consumers on November 17, at 10.45 am in Rosary High School classroom, Navelim.The issue of Aadhaar (UID) number along with other consumer related issues of Post Office, PWD water supply, Goa Dairy Milk, health, mega projects, gram sabha, etc will be discussed. Senior Citizen cards will also be filled up.

PANJIM: The electricity consumers of sub-division II (R) Sanquelim, Department of Electricity are offered part payment facility. This facility is offered as there was a gap of 6 to 7 months in issuing of energy bills to the consumers of municipal area, VPs of Pale, Velguem, Paryem, Keri, Ravan, Amona and Navelim.
