PANJIM: The government has decided to keep in abeyance some 1700 odd ration cards in Bardez, since it found the identification documents submitted for procuring them as fake and the postal addresses non existent. The joint mamlatdar–I has been asked to submit an action taken report (ATR) in the matter by June 30.
According to the notification, during the process of verification of ration card data for digitization of records, the implementing agency Goa Electronics Ltd had found that some ration card holders from Bardez did not have adequate documents.
So all these cardholders were sent notices by post and asked to submit documents and warned that in case that they fail to produce documentary evidence the cards would be cancelled. However, the notices were returned unserved by postal authorities as the address of the cardholders was not located.
In view of above, the notification by the Director of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Vikas S N Gaunekar, states, “It appears that said ration cards may not be genuine, or that the cardholders might have shifted/moved out or for any other reason.”
The joint mamlatdar–I of Bardez has been directed to immediately stop allocation of ration quota against these cards from February 2014 through fair price shops where they get ration. However, it gives a window saying that in case any cardholder whose ration card has been suspended by this order files an application with requisite documents “then such application shall be decided by the joint mamlatdar upon satisfying the identification of the applicant & that such ration card may be made active by him immediately and allocate the eligible quota to that extent to the concerned fair price shop.”
However, if any ration cards remain without submitting any identity proof by the end of the three month period, they will be canceled and the taluka officers have to strike off the ration cards from the office records permanently and thus these cards will automatically stand cancelled.
