PONDA: After shocking deaths of two brothers from starvation were reported in Margao barely a month back, another such unfortunate incident came into focus in Ponda when a teenager from Bihar is also believed to have died of fasting on Tuesday.
Police investigations have revealed that the 18-year-old girl was staying at herauncle’s place in Ponda for the past 4 years and had a fasting for the last few months on every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday without food and water.
On Tuesday night, at around 8 pm, the girl complained of shooting pain in the chest and started vomiting. Relatives aimmediately shifted her to the Ponda Sub District Hostpital where she breathed her last while undergoing treatment.
Ponda PI Tushar Lotlikar rushed to the hospital and inquired about the deceased with the fa`mily members who informed the former that the girl had abstained from food and water while fasting from Monday morning till Tuesday night.
The reasons for behind the strict fast was unknown, say police but opined that the scorching summer heat must have dehydrated the girl and taken a toll on her life.
The body has been preserved in the morgue for an autopsy and police registered a case of unnatural death.
