VALPOI: Incidents of trees falling due to stormy winds in Sattari are common and as a part of pre-monsoon works, Sattari BDO office has presented a list of 188 such trees from all the panchayats and the municipal area to the deputy collector. After examining the list, the deputy collector will grant the permission to cut them down.
As per the information obtained from Valpoi BDO office, all the panchayats were ordered to make a list of the ‘dangerous trees’ which would pose risk a the commuters during the monsoon.
“There are 188 trees from all the 12 panchayat areas in Sattari. The list has been presented to us and based on the list we’ve presented the report to the deputy collector,” said BDO Suryajirao Rane Sardesai.
The list mentions 20 trees in Poriem, 6 in Pisurlem, 11 in Keri, 30 in Mhaus, 60 in Honda, 10 in Nagargao, 8 in Khotode, 16 in Dongurli Thane, 7 in Morlem, 5 in Bhironda, 8 in Guleli and 8 in Sanvordem.
Meanwhile, the sarpanch and panchayat members have demanded to undertake the process of cutting the trees before the rains as for the last few years the work has continued even till the end of the season. “If the work is not finished before the monsoon then what is the use of making the list every year,” said one of the panchas.
