Panjim: There was heated discussion over Goa’s main economy
tourism. It was the tourism Min who said that the Tourism dept has introduced
the TIME software which gets all the data from the hotels which will be able to track the inflow of tourists,
time spend by them in Goa, their nationality and others. He also said that Tourism
dept has issued a notice to KPMG asking for the supporting documents for their
report on tourism. The figures about illegalities given by them is
astronomical, which anybody would doubt said the Minister.
Meanwhile, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa raised the issue of Online
fraud bookings in the name of hotels and demanded that this should be curbed as
no action has been taken by the department till date and fake websites are
being created.
Moreover Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the issue of loss of
revenue due to Multiple Units in one gated community. He questioned the
possibility of a mechanism to be established to monitor revenue loss.
However, Goa tourism Minister Rohan Khante said that all the
Online Travel Agents and hotels empanelled with them have to register with the
Tourism dept. Five OTAs have registered, rest who have not done will face
actions he assured.
He further added that in all 188 hotels in North and 113 in South
Goa have been issued notices for not registering with the Tourism dept. We have
asked for the disconnection of their water and electricity connections.
