PANJIM: A total of 19 candidates filed 20 nominations for by-elections to the three Zilla Panchayat (ZP) constituencies which will go to vote on October 16.
The highest 10 candidates filed their nominations in the Davorlim ZP constituency followed by five candidates in Cortalim and four in the Reis Magos constituency.
Congress has fielded candidates in all three ZP constituencies while BJP and AAP are in two constituencies each. The BJP is learnt to have extended its support to independent candidate Marciana Vas, wife of Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas in Cortalim and AAP has extended its support to independent Rajesh Dabholkar in the Reis Magos constituency.
Valent Barbosa of Congress is the only candidate who filed two sets of nomination papers in the Cortalim constituency. The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has also fielded three candidates but they all have filed their nominations as independents.
