Vasco: In the last four days, 18 cows and a buffalo were found dead in Chicolna region of Chicolna-Bogmalo panchayat area under suspicious circumstances. The reason behind the deaths is yet to be ascertained and sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said and added that the cause of death will be ascertained only after the report of veterinary experts.
Initially, the panchayat disposed off a carcass of a cow and since there are stray cattle wandering in the Chicolna in large numbers, the death was not seen as surprising. However, a few more dead cows were spotted the next day which were also buried. Another cow was found dead on Tuesday and a veterinary doctor was called upon to find out the causer of death. The primary test has not revealed anything. If there was an attempt of poisoning, there would have been foam at mouth which was not the case. Hence, the real reason will come to light only after a full-fledged report of the doctor.
Mahale has appealed to people to be careful and to inform him about any leads on the matter.
