Balli local killed in Padi mishap
MARGAO: A resident of Balli, Quepem, Vishwanath Siva Faldessai, (53) rider of Hero Pleasure scooter, lost his life when he was knocked down by a pickup on a turn at Padi.
Cuncolim police said that the deceased on Monday morning was proceeding on his Pleasure scooter to Canacona when he was knocked down by the pick up driven by Raju Faldessai. The deceased died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.
PSI Sachin Panwalkar of Cuncolim police station is conducting further investigations.
4 held for obstructing govt servant
MARGAO: Mahesh Kedekar, surveyor with Land Survey Office, Margao has complained to the Maina Curtorim police that he was obstructed by four persons from Patepur, Nuvem while discharging his lawful duties.
Police arrested Joana Ferao, Roy Fernandes, Antonio Sequeira Anastasia Ferrao, all resident of Patepur in this connection who were later released on bail by court.
Police said that Kedekar was deputed to Patepur to conduct survey of property belonging to Santa Cruz Ferrao on order from the South Goa additional collector, Deepali Naik along with police protection.
The police arrested the four under section 341, 186 and 188 of the IPC. Further investigation is in progress.
‘Fake’ recruiting agent nabbed
MARGAO: PSI Ajit R Umary of Margao police on receiving information on Monday at around noon caught red handed Gracio Glano Barreto, 24. Paiguinim, Canacona at Café Coffee Day, near Harmonia Club, Margao while he was acting as a recruiting agent without possessing a valid certificate.
The accused was found at the Café Coffee Day interviewing prospective candidates who had approached Barreto after reading an advertisement released of a local daily offering jobs in the United Kingdom. Prima facie it has been found that the accused does not poses any mandatory valid certificate to act as recruiting agent and that his intention was to cheat prospective job seekers.  An offence under section 420 read with 511 IPC and section 10 & 24 of Immigration Act has been registered against Barreto and further investigation is being conducted by PSI Umary.
1 held for assaulting constable
MARGAO: One Sagar Bora Molal hailing from Jarkhand was arrested by Margao police for assaulting a police constable on duty at on Sunday night.
Margao police sources said, the accused Molal was brought to the Margao police station as a suspect when the accused suddenly pounced and caught hold of the iron stand and assaulted Constable Sandeep Sharad Dugal on his forehead causing grievous injuries and was admitted in the Hospicio hospital, while the accused was arrested for attacking the constable.
Conditional bail to police constable
MARGAO: South Goa Additional Sessions judge Desmond D’Costa on Monday granted conditional bail to police constable, Ramprasad Prabhu Dessai against whom the Quepem police have registered offence of rape under section 376 IPC. The court directed the Quepem police to release the applicant on a bail bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety in the like amount if arrested. He was further directed to report to the Quepem police station for five days from March 19 and ordered not to influence the witnesses in the case and not to leave the state without court permission.
