MARGAO: In 2019 in South Goa District altogether 19 murder cases and 14 cases of attempt to murder were registered with Margao Town police, Ponda police and Vasco police registering three murder cases each which were the highest number. Of the 14 attempt to murder cases, three were registered at Vasco police station while two each were registered at Margao Town, Maina Curtorim and Fatorda police stations.
The three murder cases registered at Margao Town police station were those of a woman and her two sons strangulating and killing Bhimsen Kodagnoor who used to live behind Costa Factory. Though the murder was committed in 2008 it was detected and solved in 2019.
The second murder case registered at Margao was the murder of an unknown person who used to beg and who was killed by smashing his face with a stone on December 18, 2019. Although the police could not identify the deceased, Amzad Khan alias Nigro was arrested for the crime helped by CCTV coverage.
The third case was registered on December, 27 2019 when history sheeter Anwar Shaikh was murdered at around 11.30 pm by Jagesh Metti, Nagraj Naikar and Manji Metti jointly assaulted Anwar with whom they had previous enmity and killed him.
The three murder cases registered at Ponda include the one on November 21, 2019 when Krishnkumar Yadav driver of a container truck and his assistant Jaldeep Singh assaulted Vijay Gangwar and co-driver Dinesh Kumar of a another container truck with knife causing grievous injuries due to which the driver Vijay died.
After the assault, the duo fled from the scene with their container and had to be tracked by the police.
The second murder case registered at Ponda was against Ankush Gawade who attacked Ravindra Gawade with a sickle on April 29, 2019, on suspicion of having an affair with Ankush’s wife.
On December 13, 2019, Ponda police booked Suhas Naik for assaulting an elderly man who subsequently died and hence a murder case was registered against Nilay Naik and Suhas Naik.
The three murder cases registered by Vasco police include the one registered on June 2, 2019, wherein a lady assaulted her husband causing him injuries on his head, face and upper part of the body due to which he died. The incident occurred at Varnapuri in Vasco.
The second murder case was registered on September 11, 2019 against Swamnathan Mani, native of Tamil Nadu, who assaulted Vishwamitra Singh with hard object on his head and body causing bleeding injuries which resulted in death.
And the third case was registered on May 2, 2019 against Azi Nabi Shaikh for assaulting a person after abusing him with filthy language and due to injuries sustained from the broken bottle the person died.
Quepem police registered two murder cases one on June 6, 2019, wherein a young girl was murdered at Rivona and police arrested Shailesh Velip for committing the crime. And the second case was registered on December 4, 2019 wherein unknown persons murdered Menino Oliveira from Mullas, Paroda.
Curchorem police registered a murder case on November 24 against Ajit Kumar Kerkatta, a native of Jharkhand, who assaulted his brother Dilip with an iron pipe on his head which resulted in his instant death. The second case was registered on February 17, against Laljit Jhora from Jharkhand for murdering Sanju Jhora by hitting him on his head with a basalt stone.
Collem, Canacona, Maina Curtorim, Colva, Verna and Fatorda police stations each registered one murder case in 2019.
