SANGUEM: Two youth from Ambdoi, Sanguem were allegedly assaulted by illegal sand extractors in the village on Monday morning.
The youth Agnivesh and Swapnesh Gaonkar, bitterly complained against the illegal sand extraction at Ambdoi and demanded that the authorities take stern action against accused.
Addressing media persons, they informed that in the last season, the illegal sand extraction in the village was stopped following complaint by the villagers to the Sanguem Mamlatdar office. The illegal extraction has now restarted with the alleged involvement of a local politician. They claimed that the authorities have been reportedly turning a blind eye to the illegal sand extraction business.
The two youth claimed that after being assaulted by the sand extractors, when they went to file a police complaint, the police instead of registering a complaint against the illegal sand extractors, detained the duo at the police station for nearly two hours and subsequently let them go without registering the complaint. The police neither sent them for medical check up, they alleged.
They claimed that they were called back by the police and a non-cognisable offence was registered against the illegal sand extractors, which incidentally involved a councillor.
The duo alleged harassment by the police and crisitised them for not taking them for a medical checkup. Agnivesh and Swapnesh lamented the police inaction for not attaching the truck, which was loading the illegally extracted sand along the river bank. The truck reportedly left the site after loading sand right under the nose of the law enforcing agencies.
