2 arrested for attempting to smuggle Senegalia Catechu logs at Usgao

The flying squad had received information that Senegalia logs were being loaded in two vehicles at Katarwada at around 3 am.

PONDA: The flying squad of the Forest Department seized 20 wooden logs of the Catechu tree at Katarwada-Usgao during the wee hours of Sunday. The two accused Sandesh Suryakant Naik, originally from Sindhudurg but currently residing in Sanquelim, and another person was arrested by the officials.

The flying squad had received information that Senegalia logs were being loaded in two vehicles at Katarwada at around 3 am.

The team led by North Goa’s Deputy Forester Amit Jemawat, Forest Officer Joseph Fernandes, forest guard Deu Shetkar, Prajyot Naik, Ramakant Naik, Sachin Sawant, Kamlakant Curtikar and Sandesh Ghaste were part of the operation.  Both the vehicles used for transporting the logs were confiscated.
