SANGUEM, NOV 16
Wild Life Division, Kurdi-Netravali, Range Forest Officer N D Prabhudessai on Sunday arrested two persons from Netravali-Sanguem for allegedly killing a wild boar from the precincts of Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary.
The accused have been identified as Francisco Mascarenhas and Sukdo Velip. The forest officials have also attached a Tata Indica car belonging to one of the accused and a motorcycle allegedly used in the commissioning of the offence.
Later, Judicial Magistrate First Class Sanguem released the duo on bail on the condition to report to the Range Forest Office, Netravali, in the morning and evening sessions everyday for one month.
Sources informed that the forest officials while on round to the Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary noticed the vehicle within the precincts of the Wild Life Sanctuary and directed the car driver to stop the vehicle for inspection.
The officials found a dead wild boar on the back seat of the car and accordingly arrested the vehicle driver for the offence.
The officials also stopped a motorcycle, which was following the car and arrested the motorcycle rider, after a gun was found tied to the motorcycle and which the officials alleged was used in killing the seized wild boar.
Inquiries revealed that Mascarenhas was allegedly called by the killer of the wild boar to collect the wild boar after payment of a certain price at a specified location.
The team of the forest officials comprised RFO N D Prabhudessai and forest guards Freddy Pereira, Shrikant Velip, Uday Harnekar, Shambu Velip, Sadanand Malik, Mahesh Naik and Anil Gaonkar.
