PANJIM, OCT 27
Two youth from Kerala were caught in the act of attempting robbery at a jewel store and bashed up by the locals before handing over to the police today evening.
The incident occurred in the ‘Nagvekar Jeweler’ store, opposite Azad Maidan when Shani Abdullah (22) and Modasir Mussa (24) entered the store on the pretext of buying jewelries at 5:30pm.
Sanjay Balkrishna who was the only person engaged with customers displayed a range of gold chains to the accused pair, as asked by the latter. “Soon as the gold chains were displayed on the table, the pair hurled chilly power into Sanjay’s eyes,” DySP Deu Benaulikar told reporters.
Panicked by the situation, other customers ran outside the store. “Sanjay however raised alarm to chase the duo who escaped from the store. The passers-by chased the alleged robbers and caught them near Ruchi hotel at Patto,” the officer said.
The two were bashed till the Panjim police intervened and took them to the Panjim police station. Both, residents of Kannur have been arrested for attempting robbery.
