PONDA: A head-on collision occurred between a scooter and motor bike on Tuesday morning at Rathamal, Kapileshwarim, Kavlem, in which both bike riders were seriously injured and were shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Scooter rider Ranjeet Shantaram Kavlekar, (30), resident of Madlem Ward, Talaulim, received head injuries, besides fracture on one leg. It is learnt that he was operated for head injuries at GMC due to blood clotting.
While motorcycle rider (with modified bike) Deepraj Deepak Desai, (21), too suffered body injuries on his face and also admitted in GMC.
Ranjeet was proceeding towards Ponda while Deepraj was coming towards Kapileshwarim. Both then collided at Rathamal, Kapileshwarim.
A local resident Kisan Naik blamed police for allowing modified bikes on the road. Further, he blamed the incomplete sewerage work at Kavlem for the mishap.
Kisan said, “The sewerage manholes are not levelled properly. The speeding vehicles often prefer to avoid the manholes and drive on the wrong lane, resulting to accidents.”
He said, “The government should not wait for untoward incident and hot-mix road immediately.”
Police said, “An accident case has been registered and an offence will be registered soon after inquiry.”
