PANJIM:  Old Goa Police on Sunday registered First Information Report (FIR) against the kin of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and another person in connection with the death of  Merces panch Prakash Naik, who had shot himself, earlier on Friday.
Police have filed FIR against two persons – Wilson Godinho and another person identified as Tahir who were named by the deceased in the Whatsapp message sent by him before his death. The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 306 (abetment to suicide).
Superintendent of Police (North) Utkrisht Prasoon told media persons that Naik, in his, apparent suicide note, blamed Godinho and Tahir, in his message for his decision to end life.
The FIR was registered after family members and locals barged and protested at Old Goa Police Station demanding action against those named in the Whatsapp message and also demanded their arrest.
“The police initially filed a case of unnatural death on Friday, but later Naik’s family named both the men in their complaint following which a case of abetment to suicide was registered against them,” Prasoon said.
Police Inspector Krishna P Sinari said the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 306 (abetment to suicide), and the investigation is in progress.
“So far there has been no arrest,” he said that police are currently recording statements of various people.
Meanwhile, brother of the deceased Vinay Naik said that they will take the posession of the body on Monday morning and the final rites would be performed in the afternoon.
Naik, a panch of Merces, had purportedly shot himself at his residence on Friday morning. He was declared brought dead by GMC at Bambolim.
Earlier in the day, the family members filed complaint with Old Goa Police against the duo for abetment to suicide. The complaint was filed by deceased’s sister Sarita Govekar.
“We want that both the accused be arrested immediately. My father’s suicide note, a Whatsapp message, is a evidence that he committed suicide because of these two people,” deceased’s son Pritesh informed the media.
