PANJIM: The Goa State Legislative Assembly will meet for a brief two days on October 18 and 19. The session could be probably the last before the State goes to the polls in February 2022. Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has summoned the State Legislative Assembly.
A three-day monsoon session was held in the last week of July. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had also assured members in the House that the government will convene the winter session in October.
As announced earlier, the government is expected to reintroduce the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, 2021, which was passed on the last day of the session on July 30, following opposition members staging a walk-out.
The Bill later drew flak from cross sections of society and the Chief Minister made a public statement that the controversial Bill would be withdrawn and a new Bill will be reintroduced after omitting the word ‘Bhumiputra’ and by incorporating the good suggestions received from the people.
Currently the government has received a little over 150 suggestions and objections to the Bill. The suggestions and objections can be sent on website – goaonline.gov.in latest by October 4.
