PONDA: The Narvekar and Tari families at Khajan-Pali in Ponda taluka have strongly opposed the lifting of e-auctioned ore from their plot at Khajan-Pali and demanded that the government pay accumulated rent before lifting the ore.
The e-auctioned ore has been stocked in the land owned by the families at Khajan-Pali since last several years.
It may be recalled that the government had e-auctioned the ore dumped at different places which has been purchased by different buyers including mining companies.
The Tari and Narvekar families had given their land on rent to a company since 1951 for five years to stock the ore and the rent was paid regularly. The last agreement was made in 2011 for the period, 2011 to 2015, and rent for one year was paid. However, the rent for the further period has not been paid and as government e-auctioned the ore recently, the buyer who purchased the ore was interested to lift the ore. About one lakh ton of ore has been stocked in the land owned by the Tari and Narvekar families, out of it, about 12,000 tons of ore has been e-auctioned.
The families are opposed to the lifting of the ore claiming that they were not paid any rent, which is accumulated to about Rs 3 crore.
Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, Bicholim Mamlatdar Anil Rane, Bicholim PI, R A Shetgaonkar and BJP leader Satyavijay Naik on Thursday convened a meeting at Bhamai Usgao police outpost and discussed the matter with the Tari and Narvekar families over rent arrears. Both the families will submit memorandums to the Directorate of Mines on Friday demanding to clear the rent.
