MARGAO: Burglars raised their ugly head in Benaulim under the jurisdiction of Colva police station.
In a daring housing breaking theft, unknown culprits entered in two flats at Benaulim and committed theft of gold ornaments and cash totally amounting Rs 7.21lakh. Colva PSI Ritesh Tari, who is investigating when contacted said that Dr Mangala Dileep Pandiya residing at Sunset building, Benaulim filed a complaint that unknown accused used a ladder to enter the first floor flat gallery on December 29 between 4 am to 5.30 am when inmates were fast sleeping. The culprits managed to effected entry inside by opening the gallery door which was not closed properly, before ransacking the two rooms, where the inmates were sleeping.
The accused managed to lay their hands on two mangalsutra, one neckles set, one diamond set, one diamond neckles, one bracelet, two bangles, diamond ring and imitation jewelry all worth Rs 6.06 lakh, besides cash of Rs one akh.
The accused are believed to have entered the adjacent flat which was taken on rent Dr Pandiya’s friend through the gallery door were four persons were sleeping and managed to lay their hands on cash Rs 15,000 only.
Finger print experts as well dog squad were pressed into service immediately by police but were not of help. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Tari.
The Margao police sub-division has been hit by a spate of thefts last week, with burglaries and robberies reported in Mugali in Sao Jose de Areal, besides day light burglaries in the commercial capital in a single day.
So far, there’s been no breakthrough in any of the burglaries, with the men-in-uniform only maintaining that investigations are in progress.
