PANJIM: A driver and helper were seriously injured in an accident along the Miramar-Dona Paula road when the garbage-laden truck toppled after ramming into an electricity pole.
The local police and fire personnel were called to handle the situation. Driver Kalicharan and helper Raju were rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for medical attention.
Police sources said the driver allegedly lost control and hit the electricity pole. Traffic was halted for sometime following fuel and garbage spillage along the road. While the fire personnel tackled the oil spillage by spraying water and mud, the private agency – that hired the truck to collect garbage from designated areas and dump near Dona Paula – cleared the debris to ensure smooth movement of traffic.
Sources said there were no major losses. However, the Vidhyut Bhavan will evaluate damage to the electricity pole and if there was a disruption in power supply due to the accident.
