VALPOI: On Monday afternoon, two labourers, Sunita Aapaji Naik, 36, Ramu Naik, 55, from Maharashtra, were electrocuted at a sugarcane farm in Khodye Pissurlem Sattari.
Both had been working in the farm for several years. The farm is owned by one Krishnaprasad Gadgil.
The high-tension wire 11 KV was allegedly hanging from an electric pole. Villagers had complained to the Electricity Department Valpoi but their pleas fell on deaf ears, they alleged.
“For the last 10 years, I have been pleading with the Electricity Department in Valpoi to rectify this while three villagers were electrocuted. On Monday, there was power shortage problem in our village, and residents had informed the Electricity Department. But they did not act till after noon. This incident happened because of negligence of Electricity Department,” alleged Gadgil.
Meanwhile, N.N. Reddy, Chief Executive Engineer, John AP, Executive Engineer, Bicholim and Ramdas Salelkar, Assistant Engineer Electricity Department Valpoi were visited the site.
Reddy said, “I saw the site where the wire had snapped. We have to study the main cause of snapping. It is a very unfortunate incident.”
