PERNEM: Cashew and mango plantation spread across 2 lakh sq m land gutted in fire at Dadachiwadi in Dhargal village of Pernem.
The incident came into light at around 3 pm of Monday when a farmer had gone to the plantation to collect cashews. He immediately informed the farmers from the village however by the time, they could reach, fire had spread all over destroying the plantation completely. Farmers said that fire broke out from the boundary of the proposed Sports City for which thousands of sq m of land is acquired and laborers working at the have purposely set the fire.
Fire brigade couldn’t reach the spot as there was no access to the plantation.
Farmers said that mango trees of twenty-five years old with newly planted mango and cashew trees were destroyed in the fire.
