PONDA: In a tragic incident, two Class X students from Curti were feared drowned in Occambi River in Dharbandora Taluka on Monday.
Ponda Police disclosed that a group of seven picnickers, all students from a school in Curti visited the river. On their return, 16-year-old one Saniya Mulla while crossing the Okami River got dragged by the underwater currents.
In an attempt to save Saniya, one of her friends, 17-year-old Pradip Malannavar jumped into the river. However, he too got dragged by the underwater currents.
Following the incident, the Police and Fire personnel rushed to the spot and commenced rescue operations. However, they could not trace the students till late evening. The search operation will continue on Tuesday morning with the assistance of Navy.
