2 succumb in fatal accidents

One dies at Tivim, second in GMC while undergoing treatment

MAPUSA: Shravidha Samant, resident of Saligao succumbed to her injuries in a fatal accident at Madel, Tivim, on Tuesday.

According to the Colvale Police, the accident took place around 8.50 am, at Madel, Thivim, wherein Samant, who was travelling on a two-wheeler, upon reaching Madel collided head-on against a van coming from an opposite direction. The impact of collision was such that the rider fell on the road and was seriously injured.

Samant was immediately shifted to North District Hospital, Mapusa, where the doctor on duty declared Samant brought dead. 

In this connection, Colvale Police have arrested the driver of a van identified as Rahul Sawant under Section 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code and later released him on bail. Colvale Police are further investigating the case.

In another accident case, Robert Francis D’Souza, resident of Boavista, Bastora succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

According to Mapusa Police, on June 2, wife Santana D’Souza, lodged a complaint stating that on May 7, at 20.00 hours, motorcycle rider Nilesh Sawant, resident of Kasarvarnem, Pernem while proceeding from Calangute towards Mapusa via Saligao direction rode his motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner and dashed against her husband Robert, who was also proceeding from Calangute towards Mapusa via Saligao direction, causing bodily injuries.

He was immediately rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for treatment. While undergoing treatment Robert succumbed to the injuries.

Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Section 279,304 of IPC and have booked rider Nilesh.

The police are further investigating the case.
