PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday stated that the government will have to arrange at least 2,000 medical oxygen fitted beds in the State to treat the soaring number of COVID-19 infected patients.
Rane said that two floors of the Goa Dental College at Bambolim would be kept ready as back-up for COVID patients. He said that the government will do capacity building and provide 500 beds fitted with oxygen in all the COVID hospitals in a phased manner.
Rane appreciated the efforts of the health team, who managed to set up COVID facility in the GMC examination hall within a couple hours on Friday.
“Grateful to Dean of GMC and his team right from doctors, nurses, multi-tasking staff and GSIDC officials, who helped us to set up the facility,” he said.
After inspecting the Goa Dental College, which is currently under construction along with Secretary (Health) Ravi Dhawan, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar and GSIDC Managing Director Jude Carvalho, the Minister said, “We have discussed various crucial issues and are working hard towards commissioning the super-specialty block for COVID care.”
“We are trying our best to ensure that we are able to save lives of every patient admitted at GMC. We shall be increasing hospital staff and nurses in order to smoothly function and offer personalised care. These are tough times and there is a lot of pressure on our healthcare system. We all from Team Goa are working relentlessly to fight this pandemic.
