PONDA: Ponda traffic police cell penalised 56,988 motorists and earned an amount of over Rs 71 lakh for violation of traffic rules during the year 2021.
According to the data maintained by the Ponda traffic police cell, in 2020, the traffic cell had challaned 54,625 motorists and recovered a fine amount of Rs 65 lakh.
In 2021, the cell fined maximum bike riders for not wearing helmet. Nearly 8,578 motorists were found not wearing seat belts while driving, police said. A total of 7,278 motorists were fined for parking at risky places.
The cell booked 3760 motorists for no entry violation while 4120 were challaned for improper number plate. Without numbers 1290, dangerous driving 509, talking on mobile while riding 218, without licence riding 400, driving under influence of alcohol 26, without proper head light 447 besides were the other fines issued by the Ponda traffic police cell.
Traffic police also intercepted 750 two-wheeler riders riding triple seat.
