21-year-old dies in boat ride mishap

Reckless water sport activities claimed the life of a 21-year-old medical student from Faridabad, when he was fatally knocked down during a boat ride at Calangute beach on Saturday evening.
Calangute police has arrested three persons on charges of operating the boat in a rash and negligent manner.
According to Calangute police, seven friends from the Maulana Azad Medical College at Delhi had arrived in the State on December 13, after answering their exams on December 12.    (Related report on pg 2)
All of them toured North and South Goa for sightseeing and finally landed at Calangute beach on Saturday afternoon.
Shrey Makhija (21) of Faridabad and a friend went for a boat ride sometime at about 3.30 pm.
While returning to the shore, their boat collided with another boat. Shrey and his friend were injured in the incident and Shrey later succumbed to injuries.
Calangute police later arrested the operators of the boat as well as the boat owner. 
The three arrested have been identified as Anthony Thinock (boat owner), Appamauli Sulgar and Sanju Osumani (boat operators). Police Sub Inspector Mahesh Kerkar is investigating the case.
Incidentally, this is the fourth mishap involving water sports activities along the Calangute-Baga coast since October.
A 43-year-old Finnish national was injured after being hit by a dolphin trip boat at Baga beach on November 21. On the same day, a parasailor, Neeraj Vithalani, was injured at Baga beach.
Earlier on October 19, Ashish Dev, a 25-year-old tourist from Hiamchal Pradesh was injured after he was accidentally hit by a water sports boat at Calangute beach.
