24-hr services at Kalay RMD from May: PWD Minister

SANGUEM: PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Thursday assured round-the-clock services at the Rural Medical Dispensary (RMD) at Kalay, Sanguem from May. 

Speaking during the inaugural function of the renovated premises of RMD at Kalay, Pauskar said, “The renovation of the premises was undertaken way back when late Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Minister. However, the project work got delayed over the past couple of years for various reasons and due to COVID 19.”

Deputy Director of Health Services Geeta Kakodkar and others were present.

“Immediately, after the proposal was placed, Parrikar sanctioned Rs 35 lakh to undertake the much-needed renovation work including pavers, construction of compound wall, toilet and soak pit,” he said.

“As the work was almost complete in 2020, the RMD could not be made operational due to pandemic and paucity of medical staff. However, after considering the grave need of medical services in the village, the Health Minister considered the request for the opening of RMD in Kalay and also assured to provide round-the-clock health services at the Centre,” he said. 

Pauskar said, “As of now, doctors will be made available at the RMD twice a week but assured services of doctors and nurses at the Centre for 24 hours from May.”

Assistant Director of Health Services Geeta Kakodkar said, “As of now the services of doctors will be provided at the RMD twice a week to help the villagers get medical services at their doorstep. The RMD will also provide COVID vaccines on regular basis.”
