MARGAO: Stepping up their campaign against drunken driving in Salcete, the traffic police have booked 241 cases against those driving under the influence of alcohol from April till date.
According to the information available, the Margao Traffic cell has booked 191 cases while their Colva counterparts have booked 50 cases against those found driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sources said that besides this, the Margao Traffic cell booked 793 people for overspeeding and penalised them for rash and negligent driving.
Besides other traffic offenders were not spared.
Taking cognizance of the rising number of fatal accidents, the South Goa District Traffic Cell has started a drive against drunken driving and speeding of vehicles since April this year.
An officer of the traffic cell said that the rate of fatal accidents is alarming and informed that a person driving in a drunken state and overspeeding will not be spared.
