PANJIM: As many as 25 police personnel of different ranks will be felicitated at an annual event on February 1, to pay tribute to Goa police.
The star-studded award function titled ‘Swabhimaan 2020’ will be held at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar and other ministers besides Chief Secretary Parimal Rai and Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh will attend the function.
The event, conceptualised by Rajashree Creations with the help of Raj Housing is supported by State government’s Art and Culture Department.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Minister Govind Gaude said over 40 per cent of the award winners are women, showing their increasing influence in the force. A retired police officer will be honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
“The aim of the function is to create awareness about policing and provide them the social support,” he said.
adding that the awardees will be felicitated in the presence of their families.
The awards to policemen were finalised by a panel comprising of retired superintendent of police/deputy superintendent of police, retired public prosecutor and two journalists of the level of editor; the minister said. The Police Department had shortlisted the names to be given to the panel.
