25 personnel at Navelim military camp test Covid +ve

MARGAO: Twenty five Armed Forces personnel attached to Military Training Regiment Camp at Rawanfond, Navelim tested Covid positive on December 1. 

All the 25 have been isolated from the camp and admitted at the Military Hospital at Panjim. 

South Goa District Collector issued orders to conduct tests of other members of the camp. 

According to Prasad Volvoikar, Deputy Collector South, all precautionary measures have been taken by the district authorities, besides issuing orders to Health Centre, Navelim and Commanding Officer of the Military Camp. 

District authorities are also trying to find out the contacts developed by the identified COVID patients. 

“Nearly 25 Covid positive cases amongst the members of Military Camp were identified on December 1. Thereafter, the District Collector Office immediately issued orders to all the concerned authorities, including the Commanding Officer at the Camp,” said the Deputy Collector. 

The Collector’s Office has directed the Health Centre, Navelim to conduct tests of the remaining members of the camp, numbering nearly 280. 

“We have also requested the Commanding Officer not to intermingle in order to avoid the spread of the virus amongst the other personnel of the Armed Forces. However, the situation is under the control,” Prasad said. 

At the moment, the authorities have ruled out the infection due to the Omicron variant.
