MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has sanctioned 25 projects estimated to cost around Rs 1.94 crore from the Rs 5 crore of the MPLAD scheme that was sanctioned to him.
Sardinha recently announced that he will be holding a meeting to see how best the Member of Parliament Local Area Development fund can be utilised for the benefit of people.
The biggest beneficiary under is his home constituency of Curtorim where he sanctioned six three-wheeler scooters for the persons with disabilities (PwD), provided computers to St Thereza’s Convent High School and sanctioned development of a playground for a government school all totally worth Rs 75.31 lakh.
The second beneficiary is Quepem Constituency, where one PwD has been provided with a three-wheeler scooter and streetlights have been provided in Betul, Naqueri Village and Bandoi all for Rs 28.18 lakh.
Incidentally, Sardinha has sanctioned 13 scooters for the PwD of which six are given to persons from Curtorim, three to people from Navelim and one each to persons from Velim, Sanvordem, Sanguem and Quepem constituencies.
It is pertinent to point out that each of the three-wheeler scooter supplied by Quadros Motor Corp costs Rs 1,06,191 while earlier they were available for less than Rs 90,000 but provided by a different company.
Two schools in Balli, which is part of Cuncolim Constituency, have been provided with computers costing Rs 25.57 lakh. Two schools St Pius High School at Orlim in Benaulim Constituency and Jamiya e Maqbuliya High School in Ponda have been provided computers worth Rs 6.80 lakh each.
While Government High School at Aquem in Margao has been provided computers worth Rs 10.78 lakh, the Jawaharlal Nehru Higher Secondary School at Chandrawado in Fatorda has been provided computers worth Rs 2.25 lakh.
Two schools in Sanguem have been provided computers of which Barabhumi Education Society at Tambdi Surla was given computers worth Rs 10.57 lakh while Government High School at Neturlim was provided computers worth Rs 7.62 lakh.
Besides these works, Sardinha has sanctioned Rs 13.54 lakh to install gymnasium equipment for Loliem Polem Village Panchayat.
Not a single project has so far been sanctioned under MPLAD scheme in the constituencies of Madkai, Shiroda in Ponda Taluka, Nuvem in Salcete Taluka, Curchorem in Quepem Taluka and all the four constituencies of Mormugao Taluka namely Mormugao, Vasco, Dabolim and Cortalim.
However, these constituencies could well benefit now as the second quota of funds is already released to the MP and he is holding a meeting to discuss its disbursement.
