PANJIM: Continuing their action against illegal mineral transporters, Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) on Monday seized 25 trucks transporting illegal minor minerals in four different raids.
The department, along with police, seized 11 tippers of sand, nine carrying laterite and five carrying basalt. The raids were conducted at Porvorim, Farmagudi, Marcel and Mardol.
Mines Department officials confirmed that the trucks were seized for transporting minerals in violation of the Minor Mineral Concession Rules 2013. “They were kept at respective police station and were released later on payment of compounding fees,” an official said.
Last week, similar raids were held at Porvorim, Honda and Bicholim, where 20 trucks carrying minor minerals like sand, basalt and laterite were confiscated and fined.
