MARGAO: Members of a section of the Muslim community in Margao have been voicing their dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to provide them with a kabrastan, despite it being a prominent election promise for the past three decades.
Abdulmatin Daud Karol, representing the minority community in their quest for a burial ground, stated that the allocated 2,500 sqm of land at Sonsoddo, with a steep gradient, is insufficient for their needs.
For perspective, out of the 30,000 sqm of government-acquired land in Sonsoddo for a burial ground, only 2,500 sqm has been chosen by the consultant appointed by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) for constructing the kabrastan.
The remainder has been deemed ‘unusable due to the steep gradient’.
Expressing disapproval of the ‘empty promises’ made to the Muslim community regarding the kabrastan, Carol emphasised that this longstanding issue has remained unresolved for the past 30 years.
