MARGAO: Of the 30 panchayats in Salcete, 27 will have their new sarpanch and deputy sarpanch elected on June 19 as per directions issued by the two Block Development Officers at Margao and the newly elected sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas will take their oath of office on June 20.
Special presiding officers have already been trained to undertake this task in the 27 panchayats and the elections will be held between 10.30 am and 1 pm.
The presiding officer will undertake the normal procedure of inviting nominations, where the candidate will have to be proposed by one elected panchayat member and seconded by another.
This will be followed by scrutiny of the nominations and then withdrawal if any.
Elections will be held if necessary to elect the sarpanch and/or deputy sarpanch and these elections will be by secret ballot.
The newly elected sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas will take their oath of office on June 20, at 10.30 am at the BDO office in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex which incidentally is the last date for filing nominations for elections in three wards of Betalbatim and one ward each of Chandor-Cavorim and Nuvem where elections will be held on July 1.
