27-year-old Assam native held for murder

PANJIM: Old Goa Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly killing a 23-year-old youth from Assam at Corlim.

According to the police, one Manohar M, 41, resident of Gofnichem Bhatt, Calvado, Corlim, lodged a complaint regarding committing murder of his labourer Tapan Tiwari, 23, resident of Calvado, Corlim, and native of Uparkhuti Goreshwar Tamulpur Baksa Assam. 

During the course of investigation, the accused Joydahan Bharali, resident of Calvado, Corlim, and native of village Uttar Nawbandha, Atherikhat TE, Udalguri Atherikhat, Assam, was arrested on December 31, 2023.

Upon thorough investigation, the accused confessed that he had killed Tapan Tiwari.

The body of the victim was referred for post-mortem examination wherein the police surgeon at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, certified cause of death due to “Hemorrhage and shock consequent to incised penetrating injury vide injury 1 with damage to underlying vital organ cause by sharp single cutting edged stabbing weapon which was ante-mortem and fresh at the time of death and necessarily fatal.”

The case is being investigated by PI Yogesh Sawant as per the provisions of section 302 IPC under the supervision of Nidhin Valsan IPS SP North and Sudesh Naik, SDPO, Panaji.
