PANJIM: As many as 28 gazetted officers are being probed by the state vigilance department for various offences including corruption.
In a written reply given in the Assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is also the Home Minister informed that while former Director of Information and Publicity Menino Peres (who has since retired) is being probed for impersonation, and “irregularities in printing of booklets on the completion of two years of the then (Congress-led) government”, the Director of Fire and Emergency Services Ashok Menon is being probed for disproportionate assets.
Most cases are related to bribery. Interesting among the cases is that of DSP G P Mhapne who according to the reply is being probed for “illegally pushing housemaids to Gulf countries through Dabolim airport.”
A government doctor Dr Mallika Markandeya, working as a junior gynaecologist, has been charged with failure to handle a
delivery.
Two lecturers from Goa Engineering College ~ Muthulura Rayadu and S V Balabubramanyam ~ have been charged with “unauthorised absence
from duty.”
