Vasco: Police stations in the Mormugao Taluka recorded a total of 29 cases of drunken driving on the new year night. Ignoring the opposition by tourism stakeholders of Goa, the Police enforced the sec 185 of Motor Vehicle act which has created fear in the minds of the defaulters.
The action against drunken driving cases was opposed by various persons claiming the Police will make Goa another Bangalore or Mumbai. However, the police have paid no heed to the opposition and have gone all out to keep the roads safe. As a result, there were less or no accidents reported on New year’s night.
The Verna police station booked 11 cases, Mormugao booked 5 cases, Dabolim airport police one case and Vasco police station booked 12 defaulters caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
After the DGP ordered for booking of drunken driving cases through a circular to all police stations, various check posts with large number of Police were seen on strategic locations of Mormugao.
Police patrolling also kept an eye on miscreants.
